Sesame Wheat Braids

I've had several people ask for the recipe for the bread in yesterdays post. I must say I'm surprised. Most of my friends are scared of using yeast. They just leave it all to me!

So here we go. If any of you out there do make this I'd love to hear what you think and how it went!

Sesame Wheat Braids

3 packages (1/4 oz. each) active dry yeast
2 1/4 c. warm water (110-115 degrees)
1/3 c. sugar
1 T. canola oil
1 c. whole wheat flour
2 eggs
1 T. water
1 T. salt
5-6 c. all purpose flour
2 t. sesame seeds

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar and oil; mix well. Stir in whole wheat flour; let stand until the mixture bubbles, about 5 minutes.

In a small bowl, beat eggs and water. Remove 2 tablespoons to a cup or small bowl; cover and refrigerate. Add remaining egg mixture and salt to batter; mix until smooth. Add 4 cups flour and beat until smooth. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.

Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 20 minutes.

Punch dough down and divided in half. Divide each half into thirds. Shape each into a rope about 15 inches long. Place three ropes on a greased baking sheet; braid. Pinch ends firmly and tuck under. Brush with the reserved egg mixture; sprinkle with seams seeds. Repeat with remaining dough on a separate baking sheet. Let rise until doubled, about 15-20 minutes.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from baking sheets to cool on a wire rack.

Yield:2 loaves

So, scared now? It's soooo easy! Just try it!

I love this recipe because in about an hour and a half I have two loaves of bread and my house smells incredible!

Good luck:)

I'm not scared of yeast as long as it's going in the bread machine. But I'm really tempted to try this. Maybe we can do it as a science project and call it school.
