Followers/Stalkers

So I'm finally figuring out the whole 'follower' thing.

It's taken me a while.

Who isn't surprised by that at all??

When I first discovered I had two followers I was honestly freaked out. I mean, I know that I am not completely anonymous on here, but people I didn't know were following me?!?!

Then I made myself start breathing again and realized that I knew one of them. I had been reading her blog for a while. The other one? A somewhat creepy cartoony picture of a man.

With shaking hands I clicked on his picture.

Imagine my surprise when I realized it was my back up guy (you know, if we're both still single on this date we'll marry each other) I'd met in college. He had found me on Myspace a few years earlier and I'd been fascinated with reading his myspace blog devotions. I kept encouraging him to write a book because he always seemed to mention things that I knew people would be going through. Long before I blogged, he started one.

And there he was, stalking me.

Okay, not really.

By then I had figured out I wasn't being stalked by some mass murderer. My breathing was returning to normal and I went and read all his devotions. He is truly a talented writer. You can find a link to his blog in my sidebar.

Figuring Faith.

Now that following is becoming more commonplace I've noticed blogs that have quite a few. Of my mentors and friends, Kristie has 157, and Jen has 22 but has probably hundreds of subscribers! Cake Wrecks has 3,535!

Me, I have 9.

I couldn't figure out why I didn't have more:(

Not that I think I'm so amazing that I have people waiting on the edge of their computer chair to read my new posts...but because I have statcounter...I know a lot of people do stop by.

It hit me on Sunday...I might be slow, but eventually I'm brilliant!

If I had a place on the blog page to actually click on maybe that would make it easier! I know, brilliance.

So now it's there. Come follow me. Also, that means I can read a little bit about you and I'll feel like I have a new friend.

And if you have a blog, I can stalk you!! Wait, I mean follow you:)

And if you have some time to spare, go visit my followers. Some of them have amazing blogs that will put mine to shame.

But don't leave me!

I'd miss you:)

I follow you using Google Reader. Does that count?

Stefunk -
Only someone with a blog on blogger would be able to participate in the follower function. Bloggers on wordpress, xanga, etc., can't participate. I'm pretty sure of that. In addition, like me, you probably have readers who don't blog. Most of mine don't. I know this b/c they access me via google or directly. You should had the RSS to your blog. It will help w/ your hits. Not to sound completely preoccupied with numbers, but you can actually have a lot of followers but that does not correlate to hits. Now, in cake wrecks it does. They are enormously popular. I just love that site. There are so many ways to calculate stats. Alexa ranking is suppose to be the best, but I can't even get them to update my thumbnail - and in one day my rank dropped by 400,000. How is that possible - don't know. I try to focus on just doing my thing. Nine followers is not an indication of the popularity of your blog. Find our your page rank. Mine is 4 - the same as a site in OKC that has an alexa rank 2.5 million higher than mine. This keeps PR people like me busy all day - trying to figure it out. The clients I have that I do blogs for are the most confused...

I have just begun blogging and honestly I don't know too much about it yet. How can I get a stat counter? Lots of people stop by my site, but don't leave a comment b/c either they don't have time or they don't have blogs or maybe they just don't have anything to say about a particular post. I do LOVE it when I get comments though and I read all 2 of them!!! Haha.
Hence, the reason I am trying to comment more on other people's blogs that I am reading daily. I stop by here almost every single day. Keep up the good work.

I have been following you for quite some time now. Loved reading about your trip to Phoenix. Not sure why I wasn't listed as a follower. You have been on my sidebar for awhile. Love your blog.

Just after reading this post Steph, I noticed a follower called "Blog stalker" has just started following my blog....it made me laugh, because I recalled your words "with shaking hands I clicked on his picture"!

I once had a 'back up guy', it might be time to look him up as I am fancy free.

Hugs
Peggy
